‘Sea of Roses’ Honored!

Sea of Roses is a Finalist for the 2021 James Paul Gee Learning Games Award

The award-winning video game ‘Sea of Roses’ is a Finalist for the 2021 James Paul Gee Learning Games Award! The game, developed in Portugal by Crescent Tea Studios, shares the story of Marion who has mysteriously appeared in an attic with no knowledge of who she is or how she got there.

‘Sea of Roses’ is a free video game and intentionally designed to engage young people about the impact of one’s culture on their beliefs and attitudes. Produced by the nonprofit charity, Jennifer Ann’s Group, ‘Sea of Roses’ is a winning game from the charity’s ‘Gaming Against Violence’ program which uses prosocial video games for violence prevention.

I’m really proud of our game and hope it will make some difference in the way young people feel about dating and relationships!

This is the first game to come out of the small Lisbon-based game studio and they are thrilled to have their game receive this recognition. Game Designer and Artist Ariana Parrilha had this to say: “We wanted the player to learn about the theme without being overwhelmed, to empathize with Marion in a personal level, and wanting to make the best decisions for her. Overall, I’m really proud of our game and hope it will make some difference in the way young people feel about dating and relationships!”

People’s Choice voting for the game finalists begins on July 16th and the winners will be announced on August 5th at the Play Make Learn conference.

‘Sea of Roses’ is available now on Steam and coming soon to itch.io and GameJolt. The game is rated “E for Everyone” and is free.
